A tragic love story between the daughter of Prince Suyang and grandson of Kim Jong Seo. The son of Kim Jongseo, Seungyoo, is a handsome and wise man who carries a noble quality. Princess Seryeong, a daughter of King Sejo, aka prince Sooyang, is a cheerful, lively lady with a strong curiosity and bold personality. They fall in love instantly but later they find out that their parents are sworn enemies. It’s a Chosun dynasty version of “Romeo and Juliet”.

Essbee’s Opinion

It’s strange. I think I find myself loving more and more those historical drama. Maybe I’m starting to get tired of those typical modern drama. I feel like knowing that some of the events actually happened in the past just makes the story more interesting.

In this drama, as the synopsis says, we have a Romeo and Juliette type of story. Two kids from families that would never get along. However, they fall in love and they struggle together to provide themselves a better future. We have this (extremely handsome) scholar, Seungyoo, who falls in love with Seryeong, the cousin of the imperial princess. However, they did not know that their parents are enemies and would kill each other if they could. In fact, Seryeong’s father ends up killing Seungyoo’s father. Then, all this revenge story comes in, as he does not know that the woman he loves is actually the daughter of the man he wants to kill. We then see this whole process of “I love you, but we can’t be together”.

Seungyoo’s character is extremely well thought. The intelligent young man at the beginning who transforms into a dark, revengeful man, who goes back to a caring, loving lover… Park Shi Hoo was able to impersonate this character in a great way. On the other hand, Moon Chae Won is already an adorable lady. Even if I did hate her in Shining Inheritance, the feeling was completely the opposite. However, I did find her character a bit fake. Her personality was too strong and perfect. I don’t believe that a lady from such a noble family would have the guts of acting completely against her family’s will.

There were many other amazing characters. Let’s start with the most hateful Shin Myun. He was so horrible that I would have wanted him to die at the beginning. Even if he had to listen to his father, and he actually fell in love with Seryeong… okay, but still, you cannot betray your best friends again and again. [spoiler] However, how he perished at the end was still very sad [spoiler]. Then, the prince and princess, jong jeon and kyunghye were an amazing couple. He was a symbol of justice and courage. Even if he seemed to be a childish person, he held in him a lot of maturity to protect his wife. As for her, she seemed like a selfish woman. However, she ended up being a strong woman, protecting her brother and her cousin. [spoiler] The death of jong jeon was one of saddest moment of this drama. I read later that he was actually killed in the real life. However, the strength of Kyunghye was inspiring. She was the weak woman, but for her husband, she stood up and raised her child alone. [spoiler]

We have to mention the prince Sooyang, the evil-minded, power-seeking man. Even if he was the cause of all the problems between the couples and the friends, I find myself not hating him. Somehow, I felt like he was mad, so mad that nobody could do anything about it. I even felt bad for him when he realized that he had “lost” her daughter forever. I’d also mention the young kind, Kyunghye’s brother. He was so young and, so he could not protect his country as he would want. However, he was such a kind-hearted person. I loved him.

In general, I found this drama full of cruelty. A lot of fights and blood. However, it all goes around this beautiful love story that made me go crazy. As I mentioned, the betrayal of Shin Myun is also a central point of the drama. Friendship is fragile and the trio had realized it. There is then, obviously the need of power. All the supporters of Prince Sooyang knew that their own life was going to be endangered as soon as he starts doubting them. Within the 24 episodes, all types of emotions get to the viewer… and of course, with the songs from a beautiful soundtrack, everything just got a bit better.
