Six students at Kirin Art High School work to achieve their dreams of becoming stars.
This drama would be called an idol drama, because it stars numerous idols, especially from JYPE since Park Jin Young was one of the producers of the drama. I was leery about that since they aren’t REAL actors and that could make a drama fail. I’ve decided to wait a few episodes and look around for online viewers opinion and the ratings… They seemed quite appealing, so I decided to watch it. The worst that could happen was that the storyline gets really boring and I would just enjoy looking at the handsome guy and pretty girls… and listen the their beautiful voices.
The drama actually started very slowly. It took some time for the story and the characters to settle down. That was probably why the plot wasn’t that interesting. However, we got to know all the important characters and their own background story. Go Hye Mi seemed like a really adorable girl at first, but her character turns out as the complete opposite. I felt that she was very immature and needed a lot of life lessons. Her “follower” became her enemy and they will quarrel a lot! They are basically rivals. On the other side, Hye Mi met some awesome friends with whom she will overcome some hardships she has at school.
Firstly, there’s Jin Gook’s, a super nice guy who seems almost ideal because he’s protective, caring and hot! Then, there’s this music genius, Song Sam Dong, who looked very weird at first, but we end up liking him! Finally, there is Kim Pil Suk who is this FAT girl who will do everything to achieve her dream, being a singer. We really forget that they are actually singers, because their acting is very convincing. There is also Jason, a Korean-American dancer, who would be a very important supporting character.
In this drama, there are a lot of singing and dancing, which shows the talent of these idols. After looking around a little bit (dramawiki), I discovered that Suzy (playing Go Hye Mi) was only 16! I’m impressed! Seriously! Wooyoung also speaks (almost) perfect English, which was VERY surprising! JYP himself acted in the drama and I wonder if he’s really like this in real life… Also, the storyline is really cool and I’m actually quite excited to see the next episode. It’s been a long time I haven’t seen a good school-drama and I hope that this drama will please my desires 😀 And of course, cameo appearances such as Kim Hyun Joong are always welcomed!
As the drama was going on, it seemed more and more interesting. Misunderstandings, diseases and friendship really gave wonderful tones to Dream High. I think that the love triangle between Sam Dong, Hye Mi and Jin Guk is interesting, but not comparable to the Milky Couple (Jason & Pil Suk). These two are adorable and I have this Boys Over Flowers syndrome (aka I prefer the story of another couple than the main couple)… Furthermore, we see the psychological changes in every character and it makes the drama seem more real, as if they were really growing up. Even the teachers go through a lot and I found every character interesting.
As I said, Dream High’s cast are mostly singers. Then, of course, there must be a lot of songs. There are 10 non-instrumental songs that are released and they are do very well in the music charts. I especially like Suzy’s Winter Child. The ratings of the drama has been climbing since the beginning and I am part of these people who love this drama. The ending was not deceiving at all. It ended the storyline peacefully and we understand the first seconds of the drama!
